What is CityWit?

CityWit is a community web site owned by CityWit, Inc. and although most community web sites just scour the internet pulling bits and pieces of local information or links together in one place, this is not what CityWit is about. 

Our focus is to provide an online community web site for  local businesses to promote themselves with complete control over their content.  So for a business with or without their own web site, we provide them with an opportunity to expand their reach in finding customers online.  Some businesses who have their own web sites don't even have control to change their own site content at a moments notice, but with CityWit the control is completely in the hands of the individual or business providing the information.

Other unique offerings of CityWit are:

• CityWit provides a business directory, employment listings, entertainment, marketplace (classifieds) all under one site.
• CityWit is subscription based so that access to content is provided by time not by type.
• CityWit will highlight local businesses that stand out in our community.

Why CityWit?

The concept of building a community web site where local businesses are given the control over their own content started about 6 years ago and has evolved from its original concept.  The most important feature, self managed content by business owners came about in the last few years as small business consulting led to the development of many small business web sites that once built, were forgot about.  Part of the reason these sites were never updated was due to the fact that the business owner wasn't able to update the content themselves.  Generally a technical consultant had to be paid an hourly rate to make updates.

CityWit solves this problem by providing easy, form driven tools that allows the business owner to make changes at any time.  No need to contact your technical consultant and pay for each update you need to make.  In addition the content entered by the business owner for each business in CityWit is optimized for search engines to find you.

CityWit, what does it mean?

These days it is not easy to come up with and register a site (domain) name that is short, memorable and actually applies to what your site is about.  We spent countless hours creating hundreds of words that met our criteria trying to find one that had not been taken.  And finally we did, CityWit.

As many of us know 'Wit' has come to have many meanings.  However, our use of the term 'Wit' comes from the definition, which is: to come to know or learn.  So in our search for defining what we are about and what name represents that, we found CityWit which for us stands for "to come to know our city".

Who is behind CityWit?

David Broderick, founder of MindShift, Inc. which focused on computer hardware, software and network consulting for small businesses also spent 15 years in the hi-tech industry with Hewlett-Packard in several technology roles, including computer server administration, technology and network support, web site administration and most recently software development for a worldwide application used by HP support engineers.

David is also an alumni of Boise State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration.  Although most of his career has been spent in the technical world, CityWit now provides him with an opportunity to combine technology and business.
